Background of the study
In Nnewi North, community-based digital literacy training offered by libraries has emerged as a vital intervention for bridging the digital divide. As technology increasingly permeates every facet of life, digital literacy is essential for personal and professional development (Brown, 2025). Libraries have responded to this need by launching training programs that equip community members with essential skills such as internet navigation, digital communication, and the effective use of online resources (Smith, 2023). These initiatives not only improve individual competencies but also enhance community participation in the digital economy. The evolution of digital platforms has provided libraries with innovative tools to offer remote and face-to-face training sessions, ensuring broader outreach and sustained impact (Adams, 2024). However, challenges such as limited funding, infrastructure deficits, and varying levels of prior digital exposure among participants remain persistent issues. This study evaluates the effectiveness of these digital literacy programs, examines the factors influencing their success, and explores the broader social implications for community development in Nnewi North. The findings will inform future strategies to optimize digital literacy training and contribute to the overall socio-economic upliftment of the region.

Statement of the problem
Despite the increasing demand for digital literacy, libraries in Nnewi North face significant challenges in delivering effective training programs. Many community members struggle to adapt to new technologies due to inadequate training resources and inconsistent program delivery (Smith, 2023). Additionally, infrastructure limitations, including insufficient access to modern devices and reliable internet connectivity, impede the success of these initiatives (Adams, 2024). The disparity in digital skills among community members further complicates the uniform delivery of training content, resulting in variable outcomes (Brown, 2025). This problem underscores the need for a systematic evaluation of current digital literacy programs to identify barriers and propose targeted interventions that can enhance the effectiveness of these community-based initiatives.

Objectives of the study

 

To assess the current state of digital literacy training programs offered by libraries in Nnewi North.

 

 

To identify key challenges affecting the efficacy of these programs.

 

 

To recommend strategies for improving digital literacy training to better serve the community.

How effective are current digital literacy training programs in Nnewi North?

What measures can be implemented to improve digital literacy outcomes among community members?

 

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it evaluates community-based digital literacy initiatives and their impact on empowering residents with critical technological skills. The findings will be instrumental for libraries, policymakers, and community leaders in designing effective strategies to bridge the digital divide and foster sustainable socio-economic development (Brown, 2025; Smith, 2023).

Scope and limitations of the study
This research focuses on community-based digital literacy training programs provided by libraries in Nnewi North Local Government Area, concentrating solely on digital literacy outcomes and program effectiveness.
